The Mahabharata is an epic told in the form of stories and folklores. But the stories and folklores told till now still fall short to sum up the Content of the epic.
Mahabharata is one of the two major epics of Hinduism, with the other one being The Ramayana. The two epics are collectively called as 'Itihaasa' meaning History. These histories are the part of the 'Smriti' , meaning memory, Literature with other works like Puranas. The Epic is divided into 18 Main Chapters called as 'Parvas' and has 100,000 shlokas in it and each shloka is a couplet, so there are 200,000 verses.
